Troubleshooting Thinkorswim Login Issues (Jun 2024)
Over the past few weeks, existing Charles Schwab investors may have faced a rather frustrating experience following the transition from TD Ameritrade. Some of our mentees and community members reported issues logging into their Thinkorswim platform, which prevented them from placing trades. Even those fortunate enough to log in at the market's opening often encountered problems as the day progressed.
This is why it is good to maintain at least two accounts for any market to mitigate such disruptions. We remember experiencing similar login issues with Interactive Brokers during the COVID crash, but fortunately, we had TD Ameritrade as a backup. For long-term investors, login issues might not be as time-sensitive, but it's still frustrating when market conditions are favorable for purchases, and you can't execute your trades. For active traders, these issues can be even more problematic.
We reached out to Charles Schwab through their website, and they advised clearing the cache by clicking the gearwheel at the lower left-hand corner of the login screen. After selecting "clear cache and restart”, we found that this resolved our login issues completely (so far). Surprisingly, it was very easy to reach out to their support team over the website as compared to calling them over the phone.
If you're facing difficulties logging into Thinkorswim, we recommend trying this helpful trick to see if it resolves the problem for you. Thinkorswim has been a highly reliable platform for us over the years, and we hope this is just a one-time issue or, at the very least, an infrequent occurrence in the future.
